Alfie

We found Alfie at a car boot sale in Walton-on-Thames about eight years. A proper Build-A-Bear, golden and fluffy, with an embroidered nose, little stitched mouth, and embroidered eyes that made him look like he was always listening.

He needed a bit of a freshen up and a new outfit. We picked out a blue knitted onesie for him, white stripe across the front, buttons down the middle. It suited him.

Just over a fortnight later we took him to the Horley High Street event. A dad came by who was expecting a new baby any day, and Alfie was the one he chose.

He’d come on a motorbike. We watched him ride off with Alfie sitting behind him, off to meet a baby who hadn’t arrived yet. about eight years now, and we still think about that.
